batesstamp.com alternatives
Published October 27, 2026
batesstamp.com is a free set of legal document tools that run in your browser with no account. For Bates numbering alone it is hard to beat on price: it numbers up to 100 files in one continuous run and gives a CSV receipt with each file's Bates range, page count and SHA-256 fingerprint. Something else helps when the set also holds private numbers that nobody has marked, when you want to keep the last four digits of each, or when the pages you did not redact need to stay searchable. This is general information, not legal advice.
What batesstamp.com does well
- Free, no account, in the browser. Its site says files are read and written in the browser tab and never sent to a server.
- Bates numbering across files. Prefix, suffix, starting number, digits and position, for up to 100 files in one continuous run.
- A receipt. After a run it offers a CSV listing each stamped file, its page count, its Bates range and its SHA-256 fingerprint.
- Exhibit stamps and confidentiality notices, alongside or instead of Bates numbers.
- Manual redaction with labels. You draw boxes and give each a reason such as attorney-client privilege or work product. Each page is then rendered as a 300 DPI image with the boxes drawn in, so nothing under a box survives.
- Other tools: a metadata stripper, a page extractor, a filing assembler, a watermark tool and a compressor.
If you need Bates numbers on a set with nothing to remove, batesstamp.com is enough. So is the method in Bates numbering without Acrobat.
Where it stops
- No automatic detection. You draw each box. In a 300-page production, a Social Security number on page 212 comes out only if someone sees it, and nothing afterward searches the output for numbers left in it.
- Last four digits by hand. You can keep them by drawing each box over the rest of the number, one number at a time.
- Every page becomes an image. The redaction tool renders each page at 300 DPI and stores it as a JPEG, per its own page, so no text in the output can be selected or searched, including on pages with nothing removed.
- One file at a time, two tools. The redaction tool takes one PDF at a time, and Bates stamping is a separate tool, so a production goes through each in turn.

Which fits which job
- Bates numbers only: batesstamp.com, free. The Bates number format guide covers prefixes and digits.
- Bates plus load files for a review platform: BatesKit.
- A few documents full of names, or scans: RedactifyAI reads context and scans, which we do not.
- A set with numbers nobody has marked, where you want the last four digits kept, the unredacted pages left searchable, and Bates numbers and an index in the same pass: that is the job BatesNumbering.app was built for. See Bates numbering a discovery response without a lawyer and a document production index.
BatesNumbering.app looks for the numbers across every file, lets you keep the last four, turns only the pages with a redaction into images, Bates-numbers the set, writes the index, and runs a leak check on what it produced; it does not detect names on its own (you add them as words) and does not read scans.
Common questions
Is batesstamp.com free?
Yes. Its site says its tools are free with no account and run in your browser without uploading files. Its Bates Stamper numbers up to 100 files in one continuous run.
Does batesstamp.com redact automatically?
No. Its Privilege Redaction tool has you draw boxes, then renders every page as a 300 DPI image with the boxes in it. Its site does not describe automatic detection of Social Security or account numbers.
Are PDFs searchable after batesstamp.com redaction?
No. Its redaction tool turns every page into an image, so text cannot be selected or searched, including pages with nothing removed.
What is an alternative to batesstamp.com for redaction?
It depends on the job. RedactifyAI detects names and reads scans; letsgoPDF detects some number types for free; BatesNumbering.app looks for Social Security, account, routing and card numbers across a whole set, can keep the last four digits, and Bates-numbers the set in the same pass.
