RedactifyAI alternatives
Published October 27, 2026
RedactifyAI is redaction software built for law firms, and its free tools are good: a checker that tests whether text is still under each redaction mark, and automatic redaction of page 1 without signing up. Two differences matter for this page. Its checker looks under redaction marks only, so it does not search the rest of the file for a Social Security number nobody marked. And its site does not mention Bates numbering. This is general information, not legal advice.
What RedactifyAI does well
- A free checker in your browser. It finds the redaction marks in a PDF and grades each one: content removed, possible redaction, redaction failed, or scanned page. Its site says the file is not uploaded.
- Free automatic redaction of page 1, without signing up. It says it detects more than 40 kinds of personal data, including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, account numbers, addresses and signatures, and removes the text from the file.
- A free account with 50 pages a month. Starter is $19 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly, for 500 pages; Pro is $66 a month, or $53 billed yearly, for 2,000.
- Names from context. It says it can tell a name in a signature block from a name in a case citation.
- Scans, Word files and images, up to 50 documents per upload, with built-in OCR.
- Templates that keep the last four digits consistently for FRCP 5.2 filings, an audit trail, and a Clio integration. It won Best New App in Clio's 2026 Integration Awards.
For names, scanned pages and Word files, it does things BatesNumbering.app does not.
Where it differs
- What the free checker looks at. It tests the marks. If a PDF has no redaction marks, it reports none found. It does not search the rest of the document for a Social Security or account number that nobody marked. The free leak check searches the text of every page for those numbers, flags text under boxes, and reads comments, form fields and metadata.
- Where files go. The checker runs in your browser, but redaction runs on RedactifyAI's servers in the US. Its free page-1 tool says the original is deleted once processed and the output about an hour later.
- No Bates numbering stated. A production would go through a second tool for numbering and an index; see what Bates numbering is.
- Monthly plans. Pricing is a monthly page allowance. That suits a firm redacting every week; a single production may fit a one-time price better.

Which fits
- A firm redacting names, scans and Word files every week, in Clio: RedactifyAI.
- One document, a few pages: RedactifyAI's free page 1 or 50 free pages, letsgoPDF, or AI-Redact's 4 free pages. See how to redact a PDF for free.
- Checking a PDF someone else redacted: RedactifyAI's checker tests the marks; the free leak check searches the whole file. Running both costs nothing. See why black box redactions fail.
- A production of text PDFs with numbers in it, last four digits kept, Bates numbers and an index: BatesNumbering.app. See redacting SSNs and account numbers in court filings.
BatesNumbering.app looks for the numbers across a whole set in your browser and Bates-numbers it in the same pass; it does not detect names automatically or read scans, so for a set full of names or scanned pages, RedactifyAI may suit better.
Common questions
Is RedactifyAI free?
Partly. Its redaction checker is free and runs in your browser, page 1 of a PDF can be auto-redacted without signing up, and a free account gets 50 pages a month. Starter is $19 a month, or $15 a month billed yearly, for 500 pages.
What does RedactifyAI's redaction checker check?
It finds the redaction marks in a PDF and reports whether readable text is still under each one. It does not search the rest of the document for numbers nobody marked.
Does RedactifyAI do Bates numbering?
Its site did not mention Bates numbering when we read it in October 2026. Tools that do both include Adobe Acrobat Pro, batesstamp.com, letsgoPDF and BatesNumbering.app.
Is there a free checker that finds unmarked Social Security numbers in a PDF?
The free leak check at BatesNumbering.app searches the whole file for Social Security, account, routing and card numbers, dates of birth, emails and phone numbers, and reads the metadata. It does not read scanned pages without a text layer.
