Terms of service
BatesNumbering.app ("the service") looks for private numbers in PDFs you choose, removes the ones you pick, and adds Bates numbers and an index. By using it you agree to these terms. Text version 2026-10-27.
What the service does and does not do
It runs in your browser. It reads the text of each page of the PDFs you choose, and the metadata, comments, form fields, bookmarks and attachments in them, and looks for patterns: Social Security and tax ID numbers, account, routing, card, IBAN, driver's licence and passport numbers, dates of birth beside a label, email addresses and phone numbers, and text that is in the file but not visible. It shows you each one. You decide what is removed, and you can add your own words and boxes. Pages with a redaction are turned into images with the redaction painted in; other pages keep their text. The finished files are read back and you are told what could still be found.
It does not read pictures or scanned pages, which are listed as not checked. It does not find names or other words unless you add them. A pattern search can miss a number written in an unusual way. It does not decide what a rule, an order or the other side requires you to redact, withhold or produce.
Your responsibility
You review every page of the finished set before you send or file it, and you decide what it contains. You are responsible for following the rules and orders that apply in your case. If you are unsure what they require, ask a lawyer or your court's self-help center.
No promise about your case
We make no promise about the outcome of any case, or about how a court, a lawyer or the other side will view the documents.
Payment, re-runs and refunds
The first 10 pages of a set come out free, as real output. A one-time payment through Stripe covers one production set of up to 1,000 pages, and lets you make it again on the same device for 24 hours after payment (for example, to add a file or change a choice). Refunds are given on request within 30 days of payment, without argument: email the address below.
Privacy
Your PDFs are read in your browser and are never uploaded to us. The full details are on the privacy page.
What these terms do not do
These terms do not take away any right the law gives you that cannot be given up by agreement.
What this service is not
BatesNumbering.app is not a law firm or a lawyer, and using it creates no attorney-client relationship. It is not affiliated with any court.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, the service is provided as it is, and our total liability for any claim relating to it is limited to the amount you paid.
